About the Algebra calculator

Solve an algebraic expression for x and see its graph, including the roots where the expression equals zero.

How to use the Algebra calculator

  1. Type the Expression / Function, for example x^2 - 4.
  2. Set the range in Plot Range (±X).
  3. Press Solve & Visualize to see the solutions and the graph.

Formula and method

The calculator finds the values of x that make the expression equal to zero, which are the points where its graph crosses the x-axis.

Worked example

For x² − 4 the solutions are x = 2 and x = −2.

Tips

  • Use ^ for powers and * for multiplication.
  • To solve an equation like x² = 9, rewrite it as x² − 9 = 0.

Frequently asked questions

Can it solve equations with more than one variable?
No. It solves for x in single-variable expressions.
