Formula and method
The exam is scored by combining the weighted multiple-choice and free-response sections into a composite score. The College Board then converts the composite into a 1 to 5 score using cut-offs that change slightly each year.

- The result is an estimate. Official cut-offs are set after each exam.
Frequently asked questions
What score do colleges accept?
Many colleges give credit for a 3 or higher, and selective ones often require a 4 or 5. Check each college's policy.
Are the cut-offs the same every year?
