About the Distance Formula calculator

Apply the distance formula to two points and see the distance, its square and its exact root form.

How to use the Distance Formula calculator

  1. Enter the Origin Node (X₁, Y₁) and the Terminal Node (X₂, Y₂).
  2. Press Calculate Displacement.

Formula and method

d = √((x₂ − x₁)² + (y₂ − y₁)²)

Worked example

From (2, 3) to (8, 11): the differences are 6 and 8, so d = √100 = 10.

Tips

  • The squared distance is useful when you only need to compare distances.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it in three dimensions?
This tool works in two dimensions. In 3D, add the squared difference of the z-values inside the root.
