Graphing Calculator
Plot the graph of a function, view its derivative and inspect its shape over a range of x-values.
About the Graphing Calculator
Plot the graph of a function, view its derivative and inspect its shape over a range of x-values.
How to use the Graphing Calculator
- Type your Function, for example
x^2orsin(x). - Set the range with From and To, choose the Resolution and tick Show Derivative or Show Grid if you like.
- Press Plot Graph.
Formula and method
The calculator evaluates the function at many x-values across the range and joins the points. The derivative shows the slope of the function at each point.
Tips
- Use ^ for powers, and functions such as sin(x), cos(x), log(x) and sqrt(x).
- Increase the resolution for smoother curves, and adjust the range to zoom in.
Frequently asked questions
What does the derivative graph show?
How fast the function is changing. Where it crosses zero, the function has a peak or a valley.
