Formula and method
Mid-parental method: boys (mother + father + 13) ÷ 2, girls (mother + father − 13) ÷ 2.
Worked example
A mother of 165 cm and a father of 180 cm predict about 179 cm for a boy and 166 cm for a girl.
Tips
- The estimate is usually accurate to within about 8 to 10 cm. Nutrition and health also matter.
