Formula and method

Lorem Ipsum is scrambled Latin adapted from a passage of Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum (45 BC). Because it is not readable English, it lets you judge layout and typography without being distracted by the content.

When to use the Lorem Ipsum Generator

  • Filling website and app mock-ups with placeholder text.
  • Testing how a layout handles paragraphs of different lengths.
  • Preparing print designs before the final copy is ready.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving placeholder text on a live page. Replace it with real content before publishing.
  • Using very short placeholder text, which hides layout problems that appear with real content.

Tips

  • Replace placeholder text with real content before a site goes live.
  • Use realistic amounts of text so your design is tested properly.
