About the Risk calculator

Score a risk by combining how likely it is with how serious the impact would be, using a simple risk matrix.

How to use the Risk calculator

  1. Choose the Probability from 1 (Rare) to 5 (Almost Certain).
  2. Choose the Severity / Impact from 1 (Negligible) to 5.
  3. Press Generate Risk Profile.

Formula and method

Risk score = Probability Ă— Impact, from 1 to 25. Higher scores mean higher priority.

Worked example

A likely event (4) with moderate impact (3) has a score of 12, which most teams treat as a high priority.

Tips

  • Reduce risk by lowering the likelihood, the impact, or both.
  • Review and update the risk register regularly.
