How to use the Tan calculator

  1. Enter the angle and choose Degrees (°) or Radians (rad).
  2. Press Calculate Tangent.

Formula and method

tan θ = opposite ÷ adjacent = sin θ ÷ cos θ. It is undefined at 90° and 270°.

Worked example

tan 45° = 1 and tan 60° ≈ 1.732.

Tips

  • Tangent grows without limit as the angle approaches 90°.
  • The slope of a line equals the tangent of its angle.

Frequently asked questions
