Not every QR code hides a link: plain text is one of the format's happiest uses (instructions on a machine, a note in a parcel, the WiFi password's cousin, a message that needs no internet to read). Type your text and download a crisp QR code that any scanner reads offline.

How to use this tool

  • Type or paste the text.
  • Generate the QR code.
  • Download the image and print or share it.

The link-free QR, quietly the most useful

A text QR is self-contained: no hosting, no expiring short link, no tracking, just characters frozen into squares with error correction. That permanence is its charm for physical jobs (equipment labels, museum notes, geocache clues) where the code must still work in ten years. Capacity is the only physics: a QR holds up to ~7,000 digits or ~4,300 characters, and shorter text makes bigger, tougher squares that scan from farther away.

Frequently asked questions

How much text fits in a QR code?
Up to about 4,300 alphanumeric characters at maximum density, but practical scannability argues for a few hundred at most; shorter text means larger modules and faster scans.
Does the QR need internet to work?
No, the text is inside the code itself; scanning reveals it offline, unlike URL codes that then load a page.
What image size should I download?
Larger than you will print: a code printed at 2–3 cm minimum with a clear white border scans reliably; download the biggest PNG offered for print work.
