About the Vector Calculator
Add and compare two 2D vectors, and see their magnitude, dot product and the angle between them.
How to use the Vector Calculator
- Enter the X and Y components of Vector A and Vector B.
- Press Plot Space & Calculate.
Formula and method
Magnitude |A| = √(x² + y²). Sum A + B = (x₁ + x₂, y₁ + y₂). Dot product A·B = x₁x₂ + y₁y₂. Angle cos θ = A·B ÷ (|A||B|).
Worked example
A = (3, 4) has a magnitude of 5. For B = (1, 0), the dot product is 3 and the angle is about 53.13°.
Tips
- A dot product of zero means the vectors are perpendicular.
