Growth Over Time

An annuity is simply a series of equal payments made at regular intervals, and this calculator shows what those payments add up to over time once interest is included. It is useful for retirement planning, structured settlements and any savings plan built on fixed deposits.

How to use this calculator

  • Enter the payment amount and how often you pay it.
  • Add the annual interest rate and the number of years.
  • Choose whether payments happen at the end of each period (ordinary annuity) or the beginning (annuity due).
  • Press calculate to see the future value and the total interest earned.

Ordinary annuity vs annuity due

The only difference is timing. Payments at the beginning of each period earn one extra period of interest, so an annuity due always ends slightly ahead. Rent and lease payments are usually annuities due; loan payments and most savings deposits are ordinary annuities.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an annuity and a lump sum investment?
A lump sum is invested once, in full, at the start. An annuity builds up through repeated payments, so part of its final value comes from contributions and part from interest.
Can I use this for a pension or settlement payout?
Yes, for estimates. Enter the regular payment, the rate and the duration; for legal or tax decisions about a settlement, confirm the figures with a professional.
Does the calculator handle monthly payments?
Yes. Set the payment frequency to monthly and the rate and term are converted for you.
