This calculator shows the full picture of a car loan: the monthly payment, the total interest and what the car really costs by the time the loan is repaid. Run it before visiting a dealer and you will know which offers are fair and which are not.

How to use this calculator

  • Enter the vehicle price and subtract your down payment and trade-in value.
  • Add the annual interest rate and choose a loan term.
  • Include sales tax and fees if you want them financed in the loan.
  • Press calculate to see the payment, total interest and total cost.

Term length changes everything

Stretching a loan from 48 to 72 months drops the monthly payment but adds a large amount of interest, and it raises the risk of owing more than the car is worth. Car values fall fast in the first years; a shorter term keeps you ahead of that curve.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I put down on a car?
Around 10 to 20 percent of the price is a common target. It lowers the payment, reduces interest, and protects you against owing more than the car is worth early on.
Does this calculator include tax?
Yes, if you enter the sales tax rate or add taxes and fees into the amount financed, they are included in the payment.
What is a good APR for a car loan?
It depends on your credit score, the term, and whether the car is new or used. Compare at least two or three lender quotes; a pre-approval from your bank gives you a strong reference point.
