About the Network Calculator
Calculate subnet details from an IP address and mask.
How to use the Network Calculator
- Enter the IP Address and the Mask/CIDR, such as 24.
- Press Parse Subnet to see the network address, broadcast address, mask and usable hosts.
Formula and method
Usable hosts = 2^(32 − prefix) − 2. The network address is the IP AND the mask.
Worked example
192.168.1.0/24 has the mask 255.255.255.0, a broadcast address of 192.168.1.255 and 254 usable hosts.
Tips
- Each extra bit in the prefix halves the number of hosts.
