Before drawings and contractors, you need a ballpark that keeps the project honest. This calculator estimates construction cost from the built-up area and the local cost per square foot, then breaks the total down by stage so you can plan payments.

How to use this calculator

  • Enter the total built-up area in square feet or metres.
  • Add the cost per unit area for your city and finish level.
  • Press calculate to see the total estimate and stage-wise shares.

Where estimates usually go wrong

Foundations on difficult soil, finishing choices (flooring, fittings, joinery) and price rises during a long build are the classic overrun sources. Hold a contingency of at least 10% outside the estimate, and re-price the finishes before signing anything.

Frequently asked questions

What share does each construction stage take?
Roughly: foundation and structure about 40 to 45%, brickwork and plaster 15%, flooring and finishes 20%, and services (electrical, plumbing) and painting the rest. Local practice varies.
Does the estimate include land and approvals?
No. This covers construction only. Land, permits, design fees and utility connections are separate budgets.
How do I get a more accurate figure?
Use a bill of quantities from an architect or quantity surveyor once drawings exist. This calculator is for early feasibility, not for signing a contract.
