GST arithmetic causes daily confusion because adding tax and removing tax are not the same sum in reverse. This calculator does both directions cleanly: it adds GST to a net price, or extracts the net amount and the tax from a GST-inclusive total.

How to use this calculator

  • Enter the amount you have.
  • Choose the GST rate (or type your own).
  • Pick the direction: add GST to a net amount, or remove it from an inclusive one.
  • Press calculate to see the net, the GST and the gross figures.

The removal mistake to avoid

To strip 18% GST out of an inclusive price, you do not subtract 18% of that price. You divide by 1.18 to find the net, and the difference is the tax. Subtracting the percentage overstates the net and understates the tax, which is how invoices quietly go wrong.

Frequently asked questions

What are the common GST rates?
In India: 0%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% slabs. Other GST countries differ (for example 10% in Australia, 15% in New Zealand). The calculator accepts any rate.
What is the formula to remove GST?
Net = inclusive amount divided by (1 + rate/100). The GST amount is the inclusive total minus that net figure.
Should delivery charges include GST?
Usually the tax treatment follows the main supply, but rules vary by country and situation. For real invoices, follow your local guidance or your accountant's call.
