About the Horsepower Calculator

Calculate horsepower from torque and RPM, or from force and velocity.

How to use the Horsepower Calculator

  1. Choose Torque & RPM or Force & Velocity.
  2. Enter the values and press Calculate Horsepower.

Formula and method

HP = torque (lb-ft) × RPM ÷ 5252 and HP = force (lbf) × velocity (ft/s) ÷ 550.

Worked example

300 lb-ft at 5,000 RPM is 285.6 hp. A force of 500 lbf at 100 ft/s is 90.9 hp.

Tips

  • Torque and horsepower are equal at 5,252 RPM.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between torque and horsepower?
