Net worth is the simplest honest scoreboard in personal finance: everything you own, minus everything you owe. This calculator organises the listing and does the subtraction, so you can record the figure and watch it move over time.

How to use this calculator

  • List your assets: home, accounts, investments, vehicles and other valuables at fair values.
  • List your liabilities: mortgage, loans, credit cards and other debts.
  • Press calculate to see your net worth.

The trend matters more than the number

A young borrower can have a low or negative net worth and be doing everything right. What counts is direction: income above spending, debts shrinking, assets growing. Recalculate two or three times a year; the habit of measuring is itself a large part of why the figure improves.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include my home and mortgage?
Yes, both — the home at a realistic market value under assets, and the remaining mortgage under liabilities. The difference is your equity.
What about pensions and retirement accounts?
Include them as assets at their current value. They are real wealth even if you cannot spend them yet.
Is a negative net worth a disaster?
No. It is common early in adult life with student loans. It becomes a problem only if it keeps getting more negative year after year.
