A Roth IRA is funded with money already taxed, and in return qualified withdrawals in retirement come out tax-free, growth included. This calculator projects what regular contributions could build into by retirement age.

  • Enter your current age and planned retirement age.
  • Add your current Roth balance and yearly contribution.
  • Enter the expected yearly return.
  • Press calculate to see the projected fund at retirement.

Why the tax-free part compounds

In a traditional account the whole withdrawal is taxed; in a Roth, decades of growth escape tax entirely when the rules are met. That difference is worth most to people who start young or expect a higher tax rate later, which is exactly the comparison worth running before choosing where a contribution goes.

Frequently asked questions

Who can contribute to a Roth IRA?
People with earned income under the yearly limit set in US law; income limits and contribution caps apply and change over time. Check the current year's figures.
When can Roth money be withdrawn tax-free?
Generally when the account has been open at least five years and you are over 59½, with some exceptions. Contributions themselves can usually be withdrawn anytime.
Roth or traditional: which is better?
Roth wins when your retirement tax rate will be higher than today's; traditional wins when it will be lower. Many people hold both to keep future options open.
