Earning Comparisons

Job offers arrive in different units: one quotes hourly, another monthly, a third yearly. This calculator converts between them using your actual working hours, so offers can be compared like for like.

How to use this calculator

  • Enter the pay in whichever unit you have.
  • Enter hours worked per week (and weeks per year, if asked).
  • Press calculate to see the pay in every other unit.

Compare more than the salary line

Two offers with the same salary can differ by thousands in paid leave, bonuses, pension contributions and overtime rules. Convert the headline number here first, then add the package differences before deciding, especially paid days off, which never appear in a salary figure.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to yearly salary?
Hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year. Full-time at 40 hours and 52 weeks is 2,080 hours.
How many working days are in a year?
About 260 weekdays before leave and holidays. Real paid working days after typical leave come closer to 230 to 240.
Is a higher hourly contract rate better than a salary?
Not automatically. Contract rates must also cover the leave, pension and security a salary includes, so contractors usually need a notably higher rate to break even.
