VAT Calculator
Add VAT to a net price or remove it from a gross price in one click. Choose a common rate or type your own.
VAT lives on nearly every invoice in much of the world, and it produces the same two jobs daily: adding it to a net price, and taking it back out of a VAT-inclusive one. This calculator does both and shows the VAT amount separately, as invoices require.
How to use this calculator
- Choose whether your amount is net (before VAT) or gross (VAT included).
- Enter the amount and the VAT rate.
- Press calculate to see the VAT amount and the other figure.
Extracting VAT: divide, do not subtract
A gross price of 120 at 20% VAT contains 20 of VAT, found by dividing by 1.2, not by taking 20% of 120 (which wrongly gives 24). The error appears constantly in quick bookkeeping, and it is exactly what this calculator exists to prevent.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add VAT to a price?
Net price × (1 + rate). At 20%, a net 100 becomes a gross 120, with 20 of VAT.
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide the gross by (1 + rate). The VAT part equals gross minus the net you get.
What VAT rate should I use?
The rate for the goods or services and the country of the sale. Many countries run several rates (standard, reduced, zero), so check the category, not just the country.
